Learning Commons
For the opening school year at Doby's Bridge Elementary we were able to implement a Learning Commons model in our media center. The school year proved to be a dynamic year which engaged students, teachers and parents. We were able to serve every student and teacher at DBES, including over 20 original projects which integrated grade level standards with information literacy and technology skills.
The Learning Commons is a 21st century concept which differs from the media center fixed-schedule model. The primary goal of the Learning Commons is to provide just-in-time library and media services to students and teachers in a flexible work environment. The media specialist will collaborate regularly with teachers to design authentic learning experiences for students in which to build research, technology and presentation skills. |
